Her name shall be Ginormica!

If Katie were to become a superhero, I would have to give her the name Ginormica. I knew my daughter's tonsils were out of control when a doctor looked into her throat and said, "Wow! You can't miss those!!!"

Today, Katie went to the Carondelet Foothills Surgery Center for a scheduled Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy. She had nerves of steel during check-in and pre-op. The only part that bothered her was the taste of the oral sedation they gave her in pre-op. She hated the taste of the medicine and couldn't even have a sip of water to wash it down with. :(

Checking in for her surgery

Being a big girl and signing her name on a form!

We sat together in pre-op for about 20 minutes, waiting for the sedation to kick in. The nurse gave Katie a coloring book to occupy her in the bed while we waited. It was cute to watch the sedation take effect. Katie started to sway occasionally and you could see the medicine take over by the way her eyes began to glaze over. We had a few laughs during this time! :)

Chilling...

Changed into a lovely gown and waiting
for the medicine to do its magic!

Are we having fun yet???

Then the anesthesiologist and OR nurse came over to our stall to explain the anesthesia process. After they were done, they wheeled Katie off to the operating room. She was very brave and the nurse said she did great!

Her first IV

Just waking up...she kept saying she just
wanted to go home.

Daddy carrying her and kitty to the car

Katie was happy to be home. She laid down for a few minutes, but was ready to open her "Get Well" gifts from Nana. She said she was hungry and ate 3 mini pancakes for lunch. After she played with her brother for a little while, we insisted she rest. She went right to sleep and took a 2 hour nap. She has continued to eat all afternoon, insisting she doesn't need to be on a restricted diet. Her throat DOESN'T hurt! I think that is the morphine talking...we'll have to wait and see how she feels tomorrow.

Nini came to visit after work

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers today. I am off to watch Beauty and the Beast with Katie. We are going to snuggle on the couch together. Goodnight!

Wordless Wednesday: Say a little prayer

Her last night...

with her GINORMOUS...

tonsils.

Tomorrow, my little princess will have her tonsils removed. She is the first one of my little ones to undergo anesthesia. It's a simple procedure, however I'm still nervous. (I will be very happy when the procedure is done.) All prayers are greatly appreciated!

Love is...

Growing up, I would often clip this cartoon out of our daily paper. I still love receiving my daily "Love is..." email. Sometimes they are a little cheesy, but sometimes the message hits close to home. Here are a few of my favorites:

May the force be with you...

Bobby loves, loves, loves Star Wars. At a very early age, he began watching the original movies and playing with anything Star Wars. Disneyland has sectioned off a small portion of an outdoor amphitheater for the Jedi Training Academy. Youngsters of all ages crowd around the stage before the start of each show in hopes of being selected to "train" with the Jedi's and fight the dark side. This year, both Katie and Bobby were selected to participate in the Jedi Training Academy. They had a blast!!!

The force is strong in these young ones...

Lightsaber training begins!
(Notice Katie's princess hands as she trains! :))

Katie fighting Lord Vader!

Bobby fighting Darth Maul!

Lord Vader tries one last time to tempt the
young padawans to turn to the dark side...

Bobby meets a Storm Trooper up close!

The kids loved meeting the characters from Star Wars. In the words of the Master Yoda "Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size do you? Hmm? May the force be with you..."

Laughter IS the best medicine!

One of the greatest things about our kids right now are the innocent things that they say. They look at you with the most serious look on their face and tell you their inner-most thoughts...which more often than not make me tear up with their heartfelt honesty or have me laughing hysterically! Here are just a few of the gems that surfaced while we were on vacation...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bobby wanted to know where he was going to sleep at the hotel. We had told him that he would take turns sleeping with mommy and daddy.
Nana said to Bobby, "Boppa will be sad if no-one sleeps with him."
Bobby: "I don't want to sleep with Boppa. He sleeps in his underwear."
Nana: "Doesn't your daddy sleep in his underwear?"
Bobby: "Yes, but Boppa is furry!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

As we returned to the hotel after a fun-filled day at Disneyland...

Me: We're here!
Andy: We're here! We're here! Home sweet home! I love my white crib!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andy has started to announce when he needs to poop. He'll announce, "I'm pooping!". (Since he appears to be ready, we will be beginning the potty training this week.) After one such event at the hotel while I was changing his diaper:

Me: Wow, Andy! That stinks!
Andy: BEST POOPY EVER!
Me: LOL!!!

Are You Ready For Some Football?

Are You Ready For Some Football?
Flag football that is!!!

Bobby started playing football this year. Since this is his first year, he started off in the flag division. He is a member of the Vail Vikings Flag Gold team. He absolutely loves it!!!

Bobby plays on both the offensive and defensive lines this year. He is the center on the offensive line, crossing over as a receiver when needed. On the defensive line he plays a hybrid linebacker position. He's even got to punt the ball once! He is learning the rules for the game and cannot wait to play tackle football next year!

Robby was able to pick his jersey number and he picked number 51 after the great Dick Butkus. Robby tries not to choke on the word "Vikings" and even wears his Viking shirt to each game. We each got a t-shirt made with Bobby's name & number on it. We wear them proudly to each game, despite how much it hurts! :)

His first game

Team Captain for a day

At his offensive position

Punting for the first time

Robby marking the line of scrimmage and
tracking the downs...

Andy is helping to measure for a first down!

Bobby's personal cheerleader

That's all for tonight folks! I'm going to try to do a blog-a-day in October. There is so much to blog about since I've been a slacker the past few weeks...upcoming blogs will include pictures from our trip to Disneyland, lunch at American Girl Los Angeles, Katie's tonsillectomy, and much more!!! Stay tuned...

Our Lives Are Made In These Small Hours

For those of you who know our recent family history, you know how big "this" was today!

Our Little Wonders
